Term 2 Lesson 3

Report on World War II:

World War 2 was a battle that affected most of the world. It lasted from 1939 to 1945. There were 2 teams in this world war, the Allies and the Axis. It was the most deadliest war in human history, resulting in 40 million to over 70 million innocent people to die.
Although the actual confirmed starting date of the war was on the 1st of September 1939, however before that date, there were already a numerous amount of small wars. Firstly, there was the invasion of Ethiopia. It was a brief colonial war. It started in October 1935 and ended in May 1936. Then there was the Spanish Civil War. This war was generally for Germany, Italy and Spain to test drive their weapons. Then there was the Japanese Invasion of China, then the Soviet Union and finally, Mongolia. The event before the war actually started was the European occupation and agreements.
On 1st September 1939, Germany and Slovakia attacked Poland. On 3rd September 1939 France and Britain, followed by the countries of the Commonwealth declared war on Germany but provided little support to Poland other than a small French Attack. On 17th September 1939, after signing a pact with Japan, the Soviets also invaded Poland. Though Poland was divided by Germany, the Soviet Union, Lithuania and Slovakia, the Poles didn't surrender and established an underground state and continued to fight outside Poland. In a Romanian operation, some 120,000 Polish troops were evacuated to France, along with much of the Polish Air Force and Poland's Enigma Codebreakers. During this time, Japan launched its first attack against Changsha, a strategically important Chinese city, but was repulsed by late September.
Following the invasion of Poland and a German - Soviet treaty about governing Lithuania, the Soviet Union forced the Baltic Countries to allow it to station Soviet troops in their countries under pacts of "mutual assistance." Finland rejected territorial demands and was invaded by the Soviet Union in November 1939. The resulting conflict ended in March 1940 with Finnish concessions. France and the United Kingdom, treating the Soviet attack on Finland as tantamount to entering the war on the side of the Germans, responded to the Soviet invasion by supporting the USSR's expulsion from the League of Nations.
Next, the Axis advances, and soon the war becomes global. After awhile of fighting, the Axis advancement stalls. Due to this stall, the Allies managed to gain momentum and win some crucial fights. The Allies manage to close in and soon, the Axis collapses and the Allies win the war.
